Senate Committee Approves ‘Property Tax Independence Act’

HARRISBURG – The Property Tax Independence Act was approved by the Senate Finance Committee today, according to the bill’s prime sponsors Senators David G. Argall (R-29), Mike Folmer (R-48), Judy Schwank (D-11) and John Yudichak (D-14).

Man Wanted on Attack on Blooming Grove State Police

The suspect wanted by the Pennsylvania State Police for the deadly attack on the Blooming Grove State Police Barracks is 31 Year Old, Eric Matthew Frein, of Canadensis.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Reports are that shell casings in his home in Canadensis match those involved in the shooting.

State police commissioner Frank Noonan released information on Frein at a news conference Tuesday, describing him as a "survivalist." He has expressed anti-government views and has a criminal background, Noonan said.

According to the Pine Grove School District's web site. All on-campus activities are postponed until Monday.

This included tonight game's high school football game where Juniata was to play at Pine Grove.

This was due to the 2nd student-generated bomb threat this week.  The district is closed until Monday morning at regular hours.

Tamaqua Police are investigating two burglaries that occurred sometime Saturday night (September 6, 2014) into Sunday morning at two adjacent businesses, Lehigh Tire and All American Jeep, along SR309 in the north section of the borough. World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is an awareness day observed on 10 September every year, in order to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides, with various activities around the world. The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Mental Health, to host World Suicide Prevention Day.  In 2011 an estimated 40 countries held awareness events to mark the occasion.  The United Nations issued 'National Policy for Suicide Prevention' in the 1990s which some countries use as a basis for their suicide policies.

Units from Mahanoy City and Shenandoah responded.

No word yet on the cause of the fire.

Human Remains Found Yesterday Were That of Missing Man

The human remains that were found near Coaldale Saturday afternoon were identified as that of a man missing since January.


According WFMZ, the human remains found in a wooded area near Coaldale were that of 24 year old, Corey Samuels of Coaldale.  He has been missing since January 20th and was last seen walking along Route 209 in Coaldale.

The investigation is said to be ongoing.

Update: Skeletal Remains Found Near Coaldale

In an update from our story last night about human remains being found near Coaldale, TamaquaArea.com has updated that the remains were skeletal.

Police are to be at the scene Sunday to continue their investigation.

The remains were found approximately a quarter-mile south of the Seek section of the borough.

Almost 400 Homes Without Power in Western Schuylkill County

According to PPL almost 400 PPL customers are without power at this time in Hegins Twp. and Porter Township.

No word on how long it will take until the power is restored.
