Keeping the upcoming holiday season free of tragic vehicle crashes is the
aim of “Operation Safe Holiday,” a joint campaign by Pennsylvania State Police,
PennDOT and local law enforcement. The holiday enforcement will focus on
nighttime seat belt use and impaired driving.

Man Sent to Prison for Attempted Murder
Joseph Yeich, of Mahanoy City, was sentenced to 12-24 years in state prison on Monday for a December 2013 incident in the borough. Yeich was found guilty back in December.

Carl Hayslette, 41, of Sheppton was charged with terroristic threats and simple assault after an incident Monday in East Union Township.

The Republican Herald is reporting that the two people who died this morning in a crash on the Gordon Mountain were James Metzger, 67, and Elaine Bradley, 73, of Tamaqua.
