Shenandoah Man Pleads Guilty to Heroin Trafficking

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Anthony Navarro-Velez, age 33, of Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty on June 6, 2019, before Senior U.S. District Court Judge James M. Munley, to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than a kilogram of heroin.

Pottsville Woman Charged for Being Part of a "Grandparents Scheme; Defrauding Victims of At Least $158,800

United States Attorney William M. McSwain announced Friday that Yahaira Diaz, 33, of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, was charged by Information with aggravated identity theft, mail fraud, and access device fraud. The charges against the defendant stem from her participation in what has been popularly dubbed the “Grandparents Scheme”, a type of elder financial abuse.

PA Senate Approves Renaming of Schuylkill County Bridge in Memory of A. Donald Buffington

The Senate unanimously approved Senate Bill 593, a proposal to rename a bridge on State Route 4011, Gap Road, and crosses Pine Creek in memory of A. Donald Buffington. This commemorates Mr. Buffington’s faithful service to his community.

Joint, Bipartisan Senate Policy Committee to Study Possible School District Consolidation


The Senate Majority Policy Committee and the Senate Democratic Policy Committee will discuss possible school district consolidation during a public workshop discussion. This workshop will take place on Monday, June 17, at 10:00 a.m. in Room 461 of the Main Capitol Building in Harrisburg.

Schuylkill County Students Graduate from LCCC


Lehigh Carbon Community College held its Commencement ceremonies on Wednesday, May 15, at the PPL Center in downtown Allentown. Commencement recognized the more than 900 students who have earned associate degrees, certificates or diplomas from December 2018, May 2019 and August 2019. LCCC president Dr. Ann D. Bieber presided over the ceremonies.
